Ruth Frith is a super gran. At 99 years old, the spritely great-grandmother from Algester in Brisbane's outer south, is in serious training for the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games in October. Turning 100 next month, Mrs Frith won't be celebrating with a fancy party and birthday cake. Instead she will be flexing her muscles and representing her Gold Coast athletics club in a weight pentathlon. ``I'll be competing down at the Gold Coast at Griffith University on my birthday and it will save a lot of trouble for a party,'' she said. ``I've already had a birthday cake with my grandson.'' Eyeing off numerous world records and gold medals in the 99-plus category for events including the hammer, discus, shot put, javelin, weight pentathlon and weight throw, Mrs Frith will be the only centenarian to compete at this year's Masters Games.
